On Thursday, January 20th local area construction apprentices came together for the ABC Ohio Valley Craft Championship.
Representing Wat-Kem Mechanical, Ryan Richey took First Place in the Plumbing competition. The competition, which lasted for eight hours tested the apprentices' workmanship involving layout of a mock restroom. The skills needed include layout and design, PVC solvent welding, copper soldering as well as the ability to work safe and efficiently.
Ryan will represent Wat-Kem in April in San Antonio, Texas at the National Craft Championship during the Associated Builders and Contractors National EdCon & Expo. The National competition brings together every region's best apprentices in 13 trades for a two-day competition. All the competitors are tested on industry knowledge, safety, workmanship and code compliance.
Ryan is a 4th year student in the Ohio Valley ABC Apprenticeship program and acheived perfect attendence for the 2009-2010 school year. He is a graduate of Wayne High School and attended Miami Valley Career Technology Center his junior and senior years.
"I repect Ryan for his motivation, positive attitude, attention to detail and dependability not seen everyday. As a valued team member, we appreciate his contribution and wish him the best of luck at the national competition."
