Wat-Kem Mechanical, Inc. received an Award of
Excellence at the 22nd Annual Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence
in Construction Awards for the University of Dayton Stuart Hall Phase I
project.
The University of Dayton Stuart Hall
Residential Complex is a 50-year old student dormitory located on the
campus. With 324 student rooms, 19 resident assistant (RA) rooms and a total
usable space of more than 133,000 square feet, Stuart Hall houses the
majority of incoming freshmen each year. Because Stuart Hall provides a
crucial part of the initial college experience for many students (their
"home away from home"), its condition is of the utmost importance. The
renovation project was necessary to bring the complex up to current building
codes, meet modern standards and improve quality of life for residents.
The plumbing renovation included 18 student
restrooms complete with showers, 19 RA restrooms and upgraded housekeeping
and laundry facilities. The project also included the installation of
completely new domestic water and sanitary piping systems, as well as
natural gas piping. It required dedication of approximately 15,000 man-hours
to be completed within the 63-day working schedule. |
